| The Yellowstone Association Institute is sponsoring a number of nature courses at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch in Yellowstone throughout the winter. Wolves of the 21st Century, facilitated by Timmothy Kaminski, M.S. will be held Saturday, February 13th - Monday, February 15th. The course looks at the impact of wolves on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. There is a $300 fee. Thursday, February 25th - Sunday, February 28th, The Artistic Journal in Deep Winter will be taught by Eleanor Williams Clark, M.L.A. The course uses words and drawings to experience Yellowstone National Park in the winter. The fee is $420. Tuesday, March 2nd - Thursday, March 4th, Winter Ecology will be taught by James Halfpenny Ph.D. The course is $225 and looks at the ecological impacts of winter in Yellowstone. Friday, March 5th - Sunday, March 7th, Lesser-Known Carnivores will be taught by James Halfpenny Ph.D. The course is $300 and features lectures and observations of Yellowstone’s lesser known carnivores. Monday, March 8th - Thursday, March 11th, The Living History of Yellowstone’s Wolves will be taught by Nathan Varley, Ph.D. The course is $325 and looks at the history of wolves since their reintroduction in 1995. Friday, March 19th - Sunday, March 21st, Writing the Wild will be taught by Gary Ferguson. The course is $225 and looks at improving basic writing skills and learning key elements of storytelling. Monday, March 22nd - Wednesday March 24th, Yellowstone Winter Serengeti will be taught by Jim Garry, M.S. The course is $300 and focuses on observing wildlife in Yellowstone’s winter landscape. Wednesday, March 24th - Friday, March 26th, Coyote and Raven: Two Full of Facts and Folklore will be taught by Jim Garry, M.S. The course is $225 and looks at coyote and raven behavior and their stories in Native American literature.
Course participants bring their own food and cook it in the ranch’s community building, which serves as classroom, kitchen and gathering place. “Our programs are designed to showcase what many people long for the rest of the year – the quiet and pristine winter that turns Yellowstone into a completely different park,” said Jeff Brown, YAI director of education.
