Celebrate Trails Day

Join the Gallatin Valley Land Trust for Trails Day on Saturday, June 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the East Gallatin Recreation Area. This annual celebration offers a variety of events that are free and open to the public. In partnership with several community organizations, GVLT will present a number of trails-related projects and activities. Morning work projects include ridding this area of weeds by entering the “noxious weed pulling contest'.

Plans are underway to build over a mile of new trail up Drinking Horse Mountain and to construct a new parking lot for this trail, which is located across the road from the “M” Trail. Rising above the Fish Technology Center, Drinking Horse Mountain offers nearly 360˚ summit views. Trails Day crews will help construct the first section of trail linking the new parking lot to the Fish Technology Center's existing nature trail.

“SnowFill” Park “ This project will feature a one-mile, all-season trail loop on a 37-acre, city-owned property with rolling terrain and spectacular views north of the Bozeman Landfill. Known as the “Snowfill”, this site will offer a year-round dog park and groomed cross-country ski trails. The trail will be dedicated in memory of Bozeman artist Hedvig Flowers. Trails Day crews will remove old fencing and begin work on other improvements at the site. At 12:30 p.m. there will be a lunchtime celebration at the East Gallatin Recreation Area pavilion. At 2:00 p.m., meet at the Fish Technology Center parking lot off Bridger Drive for a hike up the route of the future Drinking Horse Mountain trail. Phone 587-8404 for further information.
