Local NGO active in Latin America

In March, Bozmean’s Project WET Foundation attended the fifth World Urban Forum, hosted by the United Nations Habitat Program, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Project WET attended the forum as a non-governmental organization to engage in the development of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) educational materials in urban centers in Latin America with both government officials and other NGOs. Approximately 21,000 people from across the world attended the forum, including President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan, and UN Habitat Director Anna Tibaijuka.

The forum allowed Project WET to meet with partners from the Latin America and Caribbean region to launch their WASH education project in Bolivia, El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. This process will involve working with partners in each country to ensure educational materials are both effective and culturally appropriate, printing of materials, and distribution of materials to 5000 schools through training workshops. The process of customizing the WASH education materials began in late April with a trip to Mexico to meet with partners and schools in Mexico City and Vera Cruz.
